Event Description: Friday, August 20, 6:30 pm, What can be learned from the Exxon Valdez Spill 21 years ago? Long-term effects of massive oil spill documented: Black Wave. the Legacy of the Exxon Valdez, will be screened at the Community Church, 4590 Carmel Valley Road, one mile east of Highway 1. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Before 2010, the oil spill from the Exxon Valdez supertanker in 1989 had been the biggest environmental catastrophe in North American history. For twenty years Riki Ott and the fishermen of the town of Cordova, Alaska waged the longest battle in US history against one of the world's most powerful oil company. The documentary focuses on the environmental, social and economic consequences of the black wave that changed their lives forever.
